seascapes
the painting above is one of the largest and most challenging I’ve created - a study of J.M.W. Turner’s ‘a light in the darkness’. it took about two years to complete, painted on six large sheets of Arches cold press watercolor paper, then torn into ninety six paper tiles and arranged on a foam board with T-pins.

above are detailed images of the paper tiles - each tile is about 8” x 6” in size, slightly overlapping each other throughout the painting.
lost | watercolor on paper | 35” x 28”
to the left is the painting titled ‘lost’ (also shown above) about one third of the way complete.
at this stage (to the left), it has about one to twenty five layers of paint across the paper.
the finished painting (above) has anywhere between two to one hundred layers of paint.
at sea | watercolor on paper | 10.5” in diameter
the first and only circular painting I’ve done - made to fit a custom frame my dad made from an old clock. the frame looked like a porthole window, so I painted a view to match.
dark days | 15” x 20” | watercolor on paper
“there is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.”

untitled | 6.5” x 7” | watercolor on paper
untitled | 6.75” x 5” | watercolor on paper
some of my favorite colors, all in this tiny painting - I tend to paint small seascapes when I am searching for the right colors and inspiration for my next, more involved piece of work.

moody | 8.25” x 11” | watercolor on paper

above is one of my favorite paintings - I enjoyed the process of making this one, using every color I could create. also playing with the touch of the page, thinking about how your eyes will travel across the painting when you look at it. excitement and comfort are the two thing I feel when viewing this piece.

“the fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore.”
